Volvo XC90

Typically there are two major considerations when purchasing a vehicle, fuel mileage and safety.  When you have made the choice to climb the price ladder into the luxury vehicle realm, these two factors become even more important.  What good is it to have a luxury model vehicle that you can’t even put gas into because it takes so much of it?  With that thought in mind, I present to you the most fuel efficient luxury vehicles for the 2016 model year to make your luxury vehicle shopping a little easier when all the new models arrive later in the fall.

Volvo XC90

This SUV is showing up on many lists this year and for good reason.  The XC90 is a crossover sized SUV that is powered by a compact car sized engine but packs a truck like punch.  The power for this awesome looking, and safety conscious vehicle comes from the four-cylinder Drive-E turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter engine that brings in 316 horsepower.  You would think all that power would cost you somewhere, but it doesn’t as the XC 90 delivers a fuel mileage of 20 city/25 hwy mpg to let you enjoy the ride without emptying your pockets.

Mercedes-Benz GL-Class

Giving us a diesel engine that is more efficient than most gas powered engines makes the GL- Class SUV a smart choice for any car shopper looking for a great ride.  This creature is powered by the 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6 engine which puts out 240 horsepower.  As a Mercedes- Benz model you know the ride is on point with precise handing and a smooth and comfortable ride, but to go along with all the awesome luxury features, the GL-Class shows up with a 19 city/26 hwy mpg to be a great fuel sipper.

Jaguar F-Type

A sports car on the fuel efficiency list, have we gone mad?  Actually, it’s Jaguar that has lost it upstairs a bit and brought us a car that will not only give you a lot of fun on the road with precise handling and awesome power, but one that is also good on the gas to keep the fun going.  The power for this fun ride comes from the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine which produces 340 horsepower and gives us a fuel efficiency of 19 city/28 hwy mpg allowing you to enjoy the ride in sporty luxury style.

Acura MDX

As a highly attractive SUV the MDX has a lot to offer in regards to ride quality, comfort, and even some off road capabilities if that is where you are headed.  The MDX makes the ride to soccer games and even on some light trails one that is enjoyable, making it hard to leave the vehicle.  This great ride is powered by a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine that coughs up 290 horsepower and shows u a fuel efficiency of 19 city/27 hwy.  Smart, classy and sophisticated all describe this crossover and with the savings at the pump you will enjoy driving this excellent SUV.

Lincoln MKC

With updated looks and features Lincoln has really improved its entire lineup to bring us vehicles that will give us the ride and style we expect from one of America’s premier luxury brands.  The MKC shows up with a 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that pumps out 240 horsepower.  That’s an excellent output from such a small engine which is also capable of delivering a fuel mileage of 20 city/29 hwy mpg, giving us not only an MKC that will pamper us and ride comfortably, but allow us to avoid the pump for several miles.

Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

As a great looking sedan from Mercedes-Benz, the CLS-Class offers the ride and comfort we have come to expect from one of the top German automakers.  This smooth gliding car is not only great for a comfortable ride, but is deft enough to be fun around curves and give you plenty of hold at higher speeds, making it a fantastic commuter car and one that can be unleashed when desired.  The CLS-Class is powered by a 3.0-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine that gives 329 horsepower and is capable of 20 city/30 hwy mpg worth of fuel efficiency.

Acura RLX

Acura offers us several great sedans that have exceptional looks and performance which typically are not as high in price as some of the competition.  The RLX is certainly one of these, offering us the right features and ride agility and comfort to make the drive to work worth the effort.  Powered by a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine, the RLX enjoys the 310 horsepower output and the 20 city/31 hwy mpg of fuel efficiency that is aboard.  All this makes the RLX a favorite on this list as a car that can quietly take you to and from work as well as let you have some great play time when the workday is done.

Audi A7

As a car that is close to the top of the Audi lineup, only the A8 is higher in the hierarchy, the A7 is masterfully designed and engineered to near perfection.  With a 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6 under the hood the 240 horsepower feels like so much more when you are racing down the road at speeds that would be uncomfortable in a lesser car, but the A7 handles every twist and turn with precision and ease.  Add in the 25 city/38 hwy mpg you can get out of this luxury phenom and you have a recipe for fun and success.

Audi A6

Stepping down the line just a bit from the A7, the A6 is a well-mannered car that is the right size and price for many shopping in the luxury market.  As one of the most popular commuter cars, the A6 will surprise you with the same power as the A7 and the exact same fuel numbers, making the choice between the two come down to price, features and size for anyone looking at the Audi dealer for their next amazing ride.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This is the first of the luxury segment that comes in under 200 horsepower and gives us 195 ponies to enjoy.  Even though the number sounds small, the 2.1-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine works hard to keep this lightweight and smaller luxury sedan moving.  Because of its size, the E-Class will seem quicker and more agile than larger sedans and with the smaller weight it can in some cases outrun higher powered vehicles, giving you a lot of fun on the road in a car that is meant to be a commuter luxury model.  The fuel numbers help keep you going longer as well with 28 city/42 hwy mpg to enjoy.

Porsche Cayenne

Of course the Cayenne won’t be denied the top spot as it does take those honors on so many lists.  In this case it is the only hybrid offering being powered by a 3.0-liter supercharged hybrid V6 engine that produces 333 horsepower.  The full fuel numbers have not been releases as of yet, but this SUV is a bit of an enigma with only 19 city/24 hwy when the gasoline engine is running but with the addition of the hybrid power giving additional fuel savings the number quickly elevate beyond the other luxury players.

When you go shopping for your next great luxury ride, you can use this list to check at least one thing off the importance of your experience.  Knowing what kind of fuel mileage you will get from each of these vehicles and how they stack up against the competition makes it much easier for you to decide between spending a lot of time at the pump each month, or having a vehicle that will give you great fuel mileage and the luxury features you deserve.
