Can a Supercar Continue to Leave out Technology?

When you think of Lamborghini you think of a name that has led the industry for years as one of the most innovative and technologically advanced automakers in the world.  With that in mind the super aerodynamic bulls are expected to continue to be some of the fastest supercars on the planet but without the same technology that is gracing the engine compartments of many rivals.  For some reason the Lamborghini team is aimed at offering their supercar without the aid of turbochargers or hybrid power, which might be a huge mistake; or it could be the best idea yet.

Does this mean Lamborghini won’t look into hybrid technology at all?  Nope, they are planning to have a hybrid version of the Urus SUV to offer but that has nothing to do with the Huracan or the Aventador.  The CEO of Lamborghini has vehemently expressed his desire to keep these two powered by naturally aspirated engines and make them the engines to beat.  That may be a lofty goal to have a car without any tech aids being the one that continues to be under the hood of these two amazing machines, but if it works it could be the right decision.

Why is Lamborghini being stubborn on this point?  The reasoning is simply an emotional one.  Car enthusiasts, often called purists still want to have the engine that sounds as if it’s about to blow your ear drums out and offers so little fuel mileage that it doesn’t matter as long as the car is extremely powerful and fast.  So far the two super sports cars from Lamborghini are just that at all times.  Until the company is forced to use a hybrid or turbocharged powertrain they don’t plan to do so, even though fuel-economy and emissions standards are becoming much tighter.

The choice to make it always about emotion is one that certainly endears Lamborghini to many car enthusiasts around the world.  Before they plan to make a change away from the naturally aspirated powertrains the decision will need an across the board approval in the interests of range, performance, weight and mostly the emotion and feel of the car.  Currently the Audi R8 is expected to use a turbocharged engine which is significant because it shares a platform with the Huracan which tells us the technology is ready when it needs to be used by Lamborghini.

Because the tech is ready to go when needed it seems Lamborghini may be on the right track.  When you think of these cars you want the noise, the rumble and the feeling deep inside you that an electrically assisted motor just won’t get you.  At the Nurburgring track the Aventador SV offered up a lap tome that was within two seconds of the Porsche 918; certainly that is worth mention and noting since the bull had neither turbos nor electric motors. Until it’s needed, Lamborghini will continue to do things their way, at least for now, which certainly sounds like the right decision by the highly acclaimed super car maker.
