The new 2017 Acura NSX is already considered to be one of the most impressive supercars to be built and as we move toward the 2017 model year the NSX is making a serious name for itself. This car has already competed in several events around the world and found its way to the front or near the front of the pack in many cases. Until the recent Pikes Peak International Hill Climb the car had not competed on US soil and this would be a fantastic test for the car that is being offered as the most impressive Acura ever made.
The Pikes Peak Hill Climb is a challenge for any car. This race tests the handling, the grip, the speed, the climbing ability and certainly the driving prowess of every car and driver that enters the race. This is not a race for the faint of heart as the race winds its way up the side of Pikes Peak through a series of twists and turns that will give you nightmares if you were to make one wrong turn. Many have tried and many have failed to climb the side of this mountain, and this is the event that the NSX would compete in as the first on US soil.
What we might not have expected, but should have is the fact the NSX would come out on top. This car was able to cross the finish line in 10:28.820 to be the winning car of the Time Attack 2 class at the race. The driver was Nick Robinson who is also one of the North American R&D team members for Acura and is the engineer in charge of the dynamic performance of the car, making him the perfect choice to drive the car up this mountain. Not only is he intimately involved in the NSX and its development, Robinson is also the current PP250 winner from the 2015 Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb, giving him extensive knowledge of the course.
Acura offered two other cars to the events at Pikes Peak, an Acura EV concept car that was powered by a four-motor system which was similar to the NSX and a modified NSX that was driven by James Robinson, Nick’s brother. The Acura EV was driven by Tetsuya Yamano and was able to finish second in the Electric Modified class with a time of 9:06.015 and was the third fastest car overall with a speed of 79.119 mph.
This is certainly a glorious inaugural achievement for Acura to come to this type of event and come out on top as the fastest car up the hill. While you can certainly take your NSX to the track and enjoy running some quick laps, don’t try the Pikes Peak Hill Climb unless you’re a professional driver and have the proper safety equipment installed in your car. Instead, enjoy this video and the fact that the NSX you are buying is closely related to this one that made the climb up the hill with outstanding performance and speed.
