The Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is an example of the type of vehicle that we could love to drive but will not see on our roads.
For some reason, we don’t get to enjoy the wonderful benefits of sport luxury wagons in North America. This new version of the G70 will only be offered in Europe which means we will miss out on yet another amazing car.
North America is No Place for Wagons
Because this new version of the G70 is a bit of a niche car, the team at Genesis isn’t going to offer it in areas that have typically turned their backs on wagons. Our continent has been indifferent to wagons for a long time, mostly since we found that SUVs can be more attractive than the old station wagons that used to take us on road trips.
The European launch of this car will improve the overall market launch this year with the upgraded G80 and G70 models along with the new GV80 and GV70 SUVs that are part of the mix. For drivers in Europe, they will have an amazing luxury wagon to drive when they get in and let the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake become the car that gives them the sportiness and cargo area desired.
Style that You Recognize
From the B-pillar forward, the Shooting Brake version of this car looks the same as the new 2022 Genesis G70 model. The lower window line stays horizontal to connect the rear of the car with the front and give us a car that looks great. You’ll see a single piece of glass that wraps around the rear of the car with a floating integrate spoiler above it. The taillights now extend into the tailgate to give the rear an amazing look.
The Genesis G70 Shooting Brake isn’t longer than the standard G70 sedan. The length is 184.4 inches but you do see a forty percent increase in the storage area to give you a large rear area to hold your gear. The rear seats fold in a 40/20/40 configuration to make it easy to expand the wagon cargo area and have more room for the gear you need to carry with you.
Lots of Competition for the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake
One of the main reasons Genesis chose the European market for this car is the fact that other luxury wagons have had success in this market. Germany, the UK, and Switzerland will be the first markets to see this impressive car. This G70 will be put up against wagon models from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz while others may be added to the mix.
Do we want the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake in North America? We would like the opportunity to decide if this car could be right for us. Unfortunately, Genesis isn’t taking that chance and will offer this car in a market that is already rich with similar models. Maybe you can drive one when you take your next European vacation.
