Ford Mustang Mach-E

Volkswagen ID.4

The VW ID.4 has one of the fastest charging times, with 80 percent of the charge reached in 38 minutes using a DC fast-charging station. If you need to charge this little EV overnight, you’ll need to plug it into a 240-volt port for 7.5 hours. The purchase of this Volkswagen comes with three years of free charging at Electrify America charging stations.

Volvo C40 Recharge

The smallest EV found in the Volvo lineup can give you 80 percent of the battery life within 35 minutes. That’s pretty good for this small and active electric vehicle. If you need to charge up overnight, you’ll spend about 8 hours with the Volvo C40 plugged into a 240-volt power outlet.

BMW i4

The newest electric car from BMW is the i4. This smooth and luxurious performer gives you a full charge in 8.25 hours while using your house charger. This is one of the fastest charging EV models, with the ability to give you 80 percent of the battery power in 31 minutes at a DC fast charging station. Using one of these stations means the fun can continue in this BMW.

BMW iX

It takes a while for the BMW iX to reach its full charge. You’ll need to plan 10.25 hours for this electric SUV to reach a full battery, but the story is different on the road. You can add 108 miles of range in 10 minutes or take the charge from 10 to 80 percent in only 35 minutes at a DC fast charging station. This gives you a few ways to charge this SUV.

Mercedes-Benz EQS

You might find yourself using fast charger more with the EQS than your home charger. This Mercedes-Benz takes 11.25 hours to fully charge at home. That said, it is one of the fastest charging EV models, with the capability to add 186 miles of range in 15 minutes. Electrify America allows owners of this sedan to enjoy complimentary 30-minute charging sessions during the first two years of ownership.

Rivian R1T

The new Rivian electric truck, the R1T, is another vehicle you’ll likely charge on the road more than at home. You can add 140 miles of range in 20 minutes, which will keep you going most of the day. If you need to charge the batteries completely, it takes nearly 13 hours to use the home charging system you’ve installed.

Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan uses 800-volt architecture, allowing it to charge much faster than some other models. If you use a charging station with this capacity, you’ll reach 80 percent of the battery capacity in 22.5 minutes. A 400-volt system charges the batteries completely in 1.5 hours, but if you need to use a 240-volt system, it will take 9.5 to 10.5 hours to charge this EV.

Lucid Air

The 900-volt electric architecture of the Lucid Air is a little ahead of its time. While we don’t have any fast chargers that can reach this level, you can quickly add 80 miles of driving range to this vehicle. If you need to plug in at home, you’ll spend about 13 hours charging this electric vehicle. It might be better to enjoy the 20 miles per minute available at a DC fast charging station.

Tesla Model S

One of the fastest charging EV models in the market is the Tesla Model S. You can add 200 miles of range to the batteries in 15 minutes, which is likely more than enough distance for the rest of your day. If you need to charge this Tesla overnight, it will take you nearly 9 hours using a 240-volt charging station at your home.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

You might expect some of the luxury models to have faster charging times. Still, the batteries of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 can reach 80 percent capacity in only 20 minutes using a DC fast charger. When you charge this EV at home, you’ll spend 8.5 hours with it plugged into a 240-volt outlet; that’s not an unreasonable amount of time for this electric SUV.

Kia EV6

You expect the Kia EV6 to have the same charging times as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, but the EV6 is a little faster. You’ll spend 18 minutes plugged into a DC fast charger to get to 80 percent of the battery capacity. This makes the EV6 one of the fastest charging EV models in the market. Your home charger will fill the batteries in the same time as the Hyundai.
