If the final bid were at least 25 percent above the reserve, the car would be delivered to the new owner by David Hasselhoff himself.

His entire job was to be the voice of the famous Trans Am.

What became K.I.T.T. was nearly T.A.T.T. when the early production stages of the show gave the car the name Trans-Am Two Thousand. Some experts guess the price could be somewhere near $12 million for the weaponry and AI involved in this car. Thankfully, the person buying the car at auction won’t have weapons or some of the capabilities from the show. The Turbos Made this Car Fly

The show’s creators took some liberties in how things work to give us more fun and excitement during the show. This includes using a turbo boost button that sent this car flying over objects when pressed. While turbocharging does add more power to the engine, we know how this item works, and it’s nothing like what happened in the show. Still, it was pretty cool for young viewers in the 1980s to see this car flying over obstacles every time that button got pushed by the star of the show.

The 1980s was a decade of terrible cars and awful performance following the restrictions of the ‘70s. Later versions for Knight Rider added various vents and aerodynamic gear to give this car a top speed of over 300 mph. While not possible for this car, it certainly captured viewers’ imagination from this decade who had boring sedans sitting in the driveway.

David Hasselhoff’s version of K.I.T.T. was sold at auction for $300,000 as reported by CBS Newspath in Los Angeles. The reserve price for this car was $975,000, but the auction house valued it at between $175,000 and $300,000. Unfortunately, the new owner did not get a visit from The Hoff, but they did get an iconic piece of television memorabilia to enjoy. This sale went to several Hasselhoff’s charitable organizations, including Global Mobility.
