A street-legal rally car that is also a Toyota Corolla. This is a joke, right? No, no, this is not a joke. In fact, this is one of the most exciting and anticipated releases of late 2022. Toyota has been planning this release for some time, and now it is finally here.
The Toyota Corolla GR, which closely resembles the Toyota GR Yaris, a street-legal rally car that debuted in 2020, is finally set to hit the American market. When the Yaris was released in 2020, Americans were unable to get their hands on one. Toyota decided it was time America shared in this glorious engineering by reinventing an American classic, the Toyota Corolla. No longer a budget-friendly, safe option for buyers, the Toyota Corolla GR is a beast and one of the
coolest cars of the year.
It is surprising that Toyota would release a street-legal rally car in America, much less make it a Corolla! But the reality is upon us, and its release is something that many people are excited about. Keep reading to learn all there is to know about the new Corolla GR.
A Brand New Look
For so long, the Toyota Corolla has been an American staple of reliability and affordability. Now, the 2023 Corolla has a brand new look, and it hardly resembles its previous self. The all-new 2023 Toyota Corolla GR, which one could compare to the Subaru WRX STI, is fast, powerful, and everything anyone who loves adrenaline could want. Inspired by Gazoo racing, Toyota’s racing division, the Corolla GR borrows many attributes from the Toyota GR Yaris.
The Corolla GR, overseen by Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, who happens to be a big fan of racing, is fine-tuned and ready for the streets. This is a Corolla like none other in existence.
Power is a Must
The 2023 Toyota Corolla GR is more than a sweet-looking hatchback. Under the hood resides an engine that people thought they would never see inside a Corolla. On top of borrowing many elements of the Yaris, the Corolla GR will receive an updated, and more powerful version of the Yaris’ engine. The Yaris, which uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged I-3 engine, is already a powerful vehicle. The Corolla GR will be capable of getting 300 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. If you are
wondering if this is significant, just know it is. The 2022 Corolla is only capable of getting 169 hp, which makes the 2023 GR edition something truly special.
Racing Features
The 2023 Toyota Corolla GR resembles the GR Yaris, only it’s bigger and more powerful. With its AWD system that can switch between street, track, and off-road modes, the Corolla GR will be a lot of fun to drive. Only available in Manual, stick shift enthusiasts will be lining up at Toyota dealerships. With the base model to come out in late 2022, we will have to wait until 2023 for the Morizo and Circuit editions to drop. This car will have all the excitement of being a 2023 release, technology and all, and will be something worth taking note of in terms of. If you are looking for a classic Corolla, there are still tons of awesome used Toyota Corollas out there.
