Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD Review

Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD Review

The new Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD is at your Kia dealership now, and it’s a bit of a different concept that distinguishes itself from its Hyundai Ioniq 5 sibling.

It’s comfortable and quick with a composed ride. It looks good too, with styling cues that make it stand out from anything else on the road. Let’s take a closer look.

High-Quality Interior

Even though the Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD is billed as a crossover, it feels more like a low-riding car. Entering the EV6 feels the same way. Compared to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the EV6 has a shorter wheelbase by four inches. However, it’s still fairly long considering its overall length. This translates to a ton of interior space throughout the cabin.

The seats are uniquely comfortable with black microfiber accented in light gray. The upholstery is both soft and grippy. The rear passengers can make use of a USB port located on the seatbacks. The center console is designed in a floating style, and it features a gear selector, wireless phone charger, and a stop/start button for the car.

In front of the driver are two screens and a two-spoke steering wheel. It’s immediately obvious that the EV6’s interior is not trying to be the same as a normal car. Instead, the futuristic and bold touches indicate that it is something distinctly different.

Impressive Power and Handling

An output of 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque makes for some quick throttle response from the Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD. It’s one of the first things drivers notice when they test drive this model at a Kia dealership. It’s markedly different from a similarly-powered ICE car. The steering is sharp and the vehicle produces very little body roll. It feels a lot lighter than its curb weight of 4,647 pounds.

The EV6 features a suspension setup with multilink in the rear and struts in the front. This gives the vehicle great handling characteristics. It grips the road surprisingly well and the understeer is tightly controlled. The EV6 GT-Line AWD also features 20-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Unlike its sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the EV6 absorbs rough roads with ease. Very little noise penetrates the cabin.

Charging and Range

The EV6 GT-Line AWD is capable of up to 274 miles of range as rated by the EPA. However, in real-world tests, the range is more like 200 miles. It’s a decent range for an EV, but it’s not game-changing. But the fast-charging feature should allow it to regain power pretty quickly. Kia claims that it can get 70 miles in less than five minutes. Real-world tests show that this requires mild temperatures outside.

Long trips are a pleasant experience thanks to the quiet cabin and helpful assistance systems. These systems offer good feedback but don’t lull you into a false sense of security.

The EV6 GT-Line AWD stands out at your Kia dealership with sporty appeal and good build quality that is likely to draw in both the EV-curious and the EV-convinced.
