Ford F-150s: Gas VS Lightning
If we sound like a broken record talking about EV’s it’s because it bears repeating. Electric vehicles are the way of the future and that’s that.
Still skeptical about an electric truck, or EV’s in general? Well, then it’s time you checkout the Ford F-150 Lightning.
Why the Lightning you ask?
It’s simple.
If electric wasn’t the future for automobiles why would Ford put so much stock in their all electric F-150?
When the top-selling vehicle in the US starts tricking things out, it’s time to pay attention.
Here’s a look at the all-electric Ford F-150 for sale and its more traditional, gas-powered brother.
2021 Ford F-150
With a sub-30k starting price and seating for up to six, the entry-level Ford F-150 fits most budgets and needs. This is why Ford proclaims that when it comes to their number one selling truck: “There’s a Ford F-150 for Everyone.”
But for those that prefer the gasoline-powered traditional truck, the latest F-150s still reign supreme.
Re-designed to be the toughest, most productive F-series of all-time. But one thing the gas powered Ford F-150 doesn’t have, it’s the“frunk” featured with the Lightning.
More on this unique feature later.
2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
For those concerned that the Ford F-150 will lose any of its essential “truckness,” rest easy. The Lightning is all truck, all the time. Ford’s EV weighs in at 6,500 lbs. about 1,000 lbs. more than the same truck with a 3.5-L engine.
If for no other reason than its fun to note, the batteries within the Lightning weigh under 2,000 lbs. themselves (1,800lbs.).
Sure, but can this all-electric F-150 tow anything more than its hefty frame?
Absolutely.
So, what about that Frunk you were talking about? Well, it’s a trunk, in the front, as you might have guessed. There’s another advantage of not having a large full-combustion engine—frunk space!
Ford F-150 or F-150 Lightning: Which is best?
Like so many things in life, the best truck for you is unique to you and subjective. If you’re on the fence about which to choose, you might want to consider one awesome add-on.
The Ford F-150 Lightning has an option to buy that sounds like it’s from a science fiction novel.
Here it is:
The Ford Intelligent Backup Power.
What this means is that, once installed, you’ll be able to charge your truck at home. Even cooler than that is if the grid goes down, your F-150 Lightning can act as a generator for your home.
Wait. What?
Yep, that’s right, in the case of a grid outage, your Ford Lightning can power your home.
So, how many times have you had a truck that can do that? Most likely: zero times.
Whether you choose electric or gas-powered, you can’t go wrong with a Ford F-150. But one word of warning: You won’t be able to run your home on a gas-powered F-150. Trust us.
