When looking for a high-quality truck, you can’t go wrong with either the Toyota Tundra or the Ram 1500. Both of these trucks offer a durable vehicle capable of hard work while also being a comfortable ride.

However, each model has slight benefits over the other. Depending on what is most important to you as the buyer, these differences make or break and can help seal the deal on which truck to purchase.

Space

When it comes to space, these trucks are fairly equal. On the exterior, the Ram 1500 ranges in size from 228.9 to 241.8 inches in length while the Tundra ranges from 233.4 to 252.5 inches, depending on the trim. The Ram 1500 is slightly wider with a range of 82.1 to 88 inches while the Tundra is only 80.2 inches wide.

Inside the Ram 1500 boasts 40.9 inches of legroom in the front and 35.6 to 45.2 inches in the back. The Tundra offers 41.2 inches of legroom in the front and 33.3 to 41.6 inches in the back. For headroom, The Ram 1500 gives the driver 40.9 inches and rear passengers 39.2 to 39.8 inches. The Tundra boasts 39.3 to 41 inches in the front with 36.9 to 38.9 inches of headroom in the back.

The Ram 1500 has the option of a sixth seat in the middle of the front while the Tundra only offers a 5-seat option.

Performance

It is hard to make a direct comparison of performance between these two trucks as there are varying trims and options. The Ram 1500 has a slight edge over the Tundra in MPG boasting 10-23 MPG in the city and 14-33 MPG on the highway. The Tundra comes in at 17-18 MPG in the city and 22-24 MPG on the highway.

The Ram 1500 starts with a 260-hp, 3.0 liter V6 Cylinder diesel engine and increases to a 702-hp, 6.2 liters, 8 Cylinder gas engine. In between, there are different models with an electric hybrid option. The Tundra has two levels, a 348-hp, 3.5-liter, V6 Cylinder gas engine and one that simply increases the horsepower to 389.

However, the Tundra has a much higher towing capacity with a range of 8,300-12,000 pounds while the Ram 1500 only has a range of 6,120-8,280 pounds.

Price

Both the Ram 1500 and the Toyota Tundra are relatively evenly priced. The base trim for the Ram 1500 is $35,900 while a similar trim for the Tundra is $35,950. The main difference in price comes in the highest trim with the Ram coming in at $77,780 and the Tundra only at $61,020.

Comfort

If you go with the extended cab Ram 1500, passengers will have more room. The Ram 1500 has a smaller turning radius which makes driving, especially in cities and congested areas, easier. The Ram 1500 also has a more generous basic warranty than the Tundra which gives the owner greater peace of mind.

Both of these trucks offer durable and heavy-duty vehicles. The Ram 1500 has a slight edge in interior space and handling but the Tundra offers more torque and a higher towing capacity.
