Land Rover is one brand that immediately brings to mind exactly what the name has to offer. Tough vehicles that are built to head off road while giving you the comfort and style of the cabin that you want to fully enjoy. With the LR4 you can head off road to just about anywhere and know you will be able to make the return trip with ease. Built as a body on frame luxury SUV this is one gorgeous and amazing car that gives you the performance and capability you want to enjoy on an off the road to be the right choice for you.
Choosing any SUV from Land Rover is a serious commitment to the best name in off road enjoyment. While most of the LR4 models sold don’t ever make it off a paved path because there is plenty of comfort and enjoyment offered for the whole family, this is a vehicle that craves the rugged terrain you can find away from your hometown. For 2016 this SUV offers a new paint color and improvements to the infotainment system but otherwise it remains the same vehicle that it was for the 2015 model year.
Driving the LR4 is different from most SUVs of this size. As a tall and rugged truck built SUV the LR4 offers a stable position that doesn’t feel as if it’s going to flip over easily and leave you stranded. Instead this vehicle feels much more confident and compliant on the road to allow you to drive in comfort and style while also enjoying a great feel of the road possible. Driving the LR4 is a fantastic experience and with the smooth suspension and the sound deadening technology you can certainly admire the confident capabilities of this amazing SUV.
As with most SUVs, the LR4 only comes with one engine for you to enjoy, but it’s an outstanding engine to help you carry the load. This power plant is a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that brings in 340 horsepower and 332 lb.-ft. of torque. Attached to an excellent eight-speed automatic transmission this powertrain will bring in 15 city/19 hwy mpg of fuel mileage. This engine also makes us of the start/stop technology to help provide the best fuel mileage possible while needing premium fuel to operate efficiently. The towing capacity of the LR4 comes in at 7,716 pounds to give you a way to take added gear along with you for your off road fun.
You would expect a vehicle such as this to offer a great menu of standard equipment and the LR4 doesn’t disappoint at all. Coming in three trim levels, Base, HSE and HSE LUX there is a great menu of features to enjoy. Starting at the base model you enjoy leather upholstery, power front seats, dual zone climate controls, a rearview camera, parking assistance, off road equipment, a seven-inch infotainment and an eleven-speaker/380-watt Meridian audio system. Moving up to the HSE model brings in seven passenger seating, xenon headlights, a navigation system and keyless entry. The HSE LUX version will give you a 17-speaker/825-watt audio system, improved leather upholstery, a Climate Comfort Package that adds heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel and a heated windscreen.
Looking to the options you can add you will find blind spot monitoring, a five- camera system for a full surround view of the vehicle, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system ,adaptive cruise control, forward collision alerts, braking mitigation, a Heavy Duty package which adds a locking rear differential, a low range transfer case and a full size spare. With all these added features this SUV becomes one that you can equip to exactly what you want to drive.
Because this is supposed to be one of the best off road vehicles on the market this car offers a couple features that you should pay special attention to. The first is the commanding view of what’s around you, which allows you to see the trail and the terrain around the vehicle. The other item that makes the most sense is the four-corner air suspension which gives you more control than you are used to when heading to the off road areas you want to explore.
Step up inside the LR4 and you will see the position for driving that I’m talking about. This is a great three row SUV that can also be a two row version depending upon your needs. If you want more cargo space inside, two rows is the right choice, but three will work great when you have more people to ride along. All materials are amazing and make for an attractive and exciting interior to enjoy. It will be hard to forget you are in a luxury SUV when you get to enjoy everything the LR4 has to offer for you.
On the outside this is a signature Land Rover vehicle that offers the grill that we have seen for years, a boxy shape and a design that doesn’t lend itself to trends or changes, but sticks with what works well for this name. The shape makes it easier for you to have the most space and make this an SUV that retains all of its capabilities on and off the road. Large windows make it easy for you to see and bright headlights allow the vision to be even better than with most other vehicles.
I mentioned that driving this or any other Land Rover model was a serious commitment, and that certainly is true. The base model starts out at a little over $51,000 which you might expect. Moving up the HSE comes in a little over $56,000 and the HSE LUX will cost you around $61,500. Adding different option packages to this SUV will increase the price significantly, but when it comes down to the function and comfort that is offered in the LR4 you will see the options are well worth the added cost. Let yourself enjoy one of the best off road vehicles on the market today and take some great adventures with your friends and family in this awesome SUV.
