Let’s Go Racing

Do you remember what we saw at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show? I sure do, we saw Ford come out with the biggest surprise unveiling we have ever seen in the form of the new Ford GT. This is a car that has been built to be a lot of things. The car is a super sport racer, is a powerful car that uses a V6 engine and is covered in highly aerodynamic carbon fiber. This is a car we have admired already for over a year and have dreamed about being able to drive and have a great time from behind the wheel.

For one racing team the Ford GT will be their race car of choice. At its first race, the Rolex 24 endurance race in Daytona which was unfortunately a disaster for the Ford GT, Chip Ganassi’s team has received approval for all four of their Ford GT racers to be able to enter into competition in the LeMans racing circuit for the 2016 racing season. This was the goal from the start for the Ford GT to be able to race in this racing circuit but with this announcement the news became official for this new super car.

The invitation to compete in this race should have been a shoo in for the Ford GT, but there were problems in Daytona that were both mechanical and electrical for the car. This led to waiting with bated breath for the ACO to invite the team to the racing circuit. Now that the news is official its possible we may see a race this year that has the Ford GT showing off the same or similar performance as it did fifty years ago when the car came in first, second and third in the LeMans circuit setting and unprecedented record.

By entering four cars instead of the two that were present at Daytona the team has less chance of running into issues, but they also have to make sure all four are ready to ride and will give them the performance they desire. The numbers that will be assigned to the four GT’s will be 66,67,68 and 69 for anyone who is a fan of this most grueling race to be able to identify which cars they are, although it really won’t be difficult at all to pick these cars out in a crowd at Le Mans.

When will we see these four beauties race? The race is scheduled to kick off on June 18th, which only gives the quartet of Ford GT models a few months to get everything right, but if history has anything to say about it these cars will be ready and won’t fail again. This is certainly an exciting event on the eve of when the car will actually be put on the market for sale to the public, which will take place for the 2017 model year. Start your engines and enjoy the race and the opportunity to admire one of the best races in the world.
