A Look at Some PHEV’s

The benefit of a PHEV over a battery electric or BEV is the fact that a PHEV offers you the benefit of a gasoline engine. While we may eventually see the day when a BEV has the range needed and the charging time of a regular fill up of gasoline, right now we are years away from that being the case. Because of this, a PHEV may be the way you can save on gas, drive a car that at least has some electric propulsion and still enjoy being eco-friendly on the road. Here are some of the PHEV’s on the market today and what you can expect from them.

Ford C-Max Energi – This is a car that offers you a sensible option when you look at the plug-in models on the road today. This car offers a desirable shape and a hybrid powertrain that gives you 188 horsepower and the range you want. The electric range of this vehicle is only 19 miles but it still improves upon the standard version.

Mercedes- Benz S550e – This is the PHEV for the luxury crow and one that is uncompromising in its technology and capabilities. This car offers you a full 436 horsepower and a time to reach sixty mph of only 4.9 seconds. The electric only range comes out at a meager 12 miles, but it allows you to have much better efficiency than you would on the standard model.

Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid – Can there really be such a thing; yes there can. This Porsche is an amazing SUV that lets you enjoy as much as 15 miles of electric driving but also gives you all of the Porsche features you want to have on the road. This SUV brings a combined horsepower of 416 ponies for you to ride on and love the way it feels on the road.

BMW 330e – This is certainly the PHEV sports sedan you want to drive as it gives you the power to reach sixty mph in only 5.8 seconds and shows up as a quick and agile model. This BMW does only have an electric range of 14 miles, but it helps to improve the fuel efficiency and when you get out on the road and drive its one that allows you to have the engaging ride you’ve been looking for.

BMW X5 xDrive40e – In similar fashion to the 330e, this SUV can only drive for 14 miles on electricity but does offer a nice sprint speed of 6.2 seconds to reach sixty mph and will give you more fuel mileage than you’re used to in the standard X5 models. This is an SUV that has all the features you want and the added benefit of being an electric to be the vehicle that you look to when it’s time to take a ride.

Hyundai Sonata Plug-In – The Sonata is the car that Hyundai choses for all its testing and it certainly is the right choice. This plug-in offers you 202 horsepower and can drive up to 27 miles on electricity before the gasoline engine has to kick in. The efficiency of the Sonata plug-in gives you as much as 590 miles of driving range to ensure you don’t have to stop for gas very often at all.

Mercedes-Benz GLE550e – here we have an SUV that offers up 436 horsepower to be powerful enough to rival most pickup trucks. This SUV can drive for 12 miles on electricity alone but is capable of so much more as you enjoy the quickness to reach sixty mph and the energetic acceleration of a vehicle that offers style and performance on the road.

Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-In Hybrid – If you want a large SUV that comes with some of the most advanced technology, this is the right one for you. This plug-in XC90 gives you the space you need with 400 horsepower pulling this large seven-passenger vehicle along. There is only 13 miles of pure electric range in this beast, but when the electric and gasoline are working together you want to drive this big brute.

Chevrolet Volt – Finally we come to a model that actually gives us good range from the electric motor. The Volt can reach 53 miles on electricity alone and has a full range between the electric motor and gasoline engine of over 400 miles. This gives the Volt the range you want and the ability to enjoy driving for much longer than you would normally expect, especially in EV mode.
