Did They Reinvent the Wheel?

When you hear the term “don’t reinvent the wheel” what does it mean to you? Typically when we hear this statement it’s in reference to simplifying an activity and breaking it down to its most basic parts before moving forward. This term is in reference to avoiding overcomplicating things and sticking to what works, but what happens if someone really did go and reinvent the wheel? Would this mean what you’ve learned all your life needs to be changed and rethought?

For Faraday Future reinventing the wheel could be a true reality. While we have yet to actually see the vehicles this new EV company plans to present us with, they have released a few videos with heavily camouflaged vehicles. Their first model will be a supercar that just might be the next advanced racing machine, which is a lot of fun to talk about but it doesn’t answer the question of practicality. The vehicle shown in this video is an SUV that appears to be an EV model that will hopefully be released to the public soon. From the view you get of the vehicle in the short video you can see this model is ready to perform.

Most of what you see during the video scene is the wheels turning, but you don’t get enough of a view of the wheels and how they work to know whether or not these wheels have truly been reinvented. What you do see when the wheels aren’t the focal point, is a vehicle that could be a dynamic drive to give some of the top luxury SUV models a challenge and let us enjoy what Faraday Future has to offer. Of course, their headline suggests there’s something seriously special about these wheels and they do have an impressive design, but what could be so special.

Likely these wheels may have the ability to generate more charge to the batteries to help increase the range of the vehicle. That is certainly one thought and if they use dampers that recover energy from the road, this is something Audi is already working on. Another possibility is using better airflow to cool the brakes, but that’s also been thought of an even done by BMW several years ago. One thought would be that these wheels are actually the batteries of the vehicle, which would allow the SUV to stay charged on the road, but might break some laws of motion.

We will actually get to see what this vehicle is in January. It is scheduled to be shown off at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. The CES has become a place that is just as important for automakers as the rest of the auto shows each year and now that we know Faraday Future will show off this vehicle at the show. We might see more teaser videos between now and when the CES show occurs which could certainly be interesting for us to see between now and then.
