Buick is Bringing Back the Excelle in China

The return of the Buick Excelle allows Buick to change the reputation of this car and offer more of what drivers in China want when they take a ride.

One of the favorite brands in China happens to be Buick. This brand has enjoyed so much success in the country that GM chose to put a manufacturing plant in the area and send an SUV from China to the North American market. In 2016, the Buick leadership announced the Excelle would no longer be built, which only left the Excelle GT as the choice that shoppers could choose if they wanted to have a compact car for the drive desired, but this name has returned for the 2018 model year.

What is the Buick Excelle

At the compact level of driving, the Buick Excelle was mired with the reputation of being a car that didn’t quite offer the look, the quality, or the feel that many would admire or enjoy when it’s time to get out on the road. This car shows up with the latest Buick design cues, more amenities, and a shiny new architecture while being better equipped than the previous model.

The new platform the Excelle will ride on is the GEM platform which stands for Global Emerging Markets. This platform allows the Excelle to be longer and larger than before. Every model of this car will be fitted with six airbags, electronic stability controls, hill start assist, straight-line stability controls, and reverse radar. The seats are comfortable, the cabin is larger and the trunk is bigger than in the model that was deleted from the market for a short period of time. This new version of the Excelle could quickly become a sales leader for Buick in China.

Powering the Excelle

the power for this small and active car comes from a 1.3-liter engine that can produce 106 horsepower and 98 lb.-ft. of torque. This power is routed to the wheels through a CVT automatic transmission and makes it possible for this small car to be able to offer improved fuel mileage of over thirty percent when compared to the previous version of the car. The previous model sold nearly three million copies which makes the Excelle one of the most successful vehicles in the market and one that many can choose to drive.

Are We Going to See a Small Buick?

Most recently, Buick stopped offering us the Verano, which was the smallest model offered for us to have on the road. This compact premium sedan wasn’t a top seller for the brand and as the market turns toward SUV models, it seems a sedan at this level of the market won’t make a comeback anytime soon. That doesn’t mean we’re not going to see a version of the Excelle at some point in the future and it could be the model that brings back the Verano name if sedans become more popular once again.
