Electrification Excitement in the Chevy Camaro

We’ve seen a number of amazing electrified cars that are part of the highest end of the hypercar market over the past few years and now it seems our domestic brands are working on ways to use electricity to their advantage. Not only will we see more electric cars, SUVs, and possibly pickup trucks in the near future, but we should also be able to see more performance machines that use electricity to go along with the gasoline power offered. One such car made its way to a drag strip to give us a quiet speed we can certainly admire.

The Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro Debuts

The SEMA show has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t see and admire something spectacular that we want to enjoy over and over again. While many of the hypercars that we see coming from Europe use hybrid powertrains to benefit from both a gasoline engine and a set of electric motors, this new Chevy Camaro is one that only uses electricity for the power offered. That amazing fact is something that we want to talk about, but the performance this car put out is even more incredible.

The Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro showed off as an electric drag car that’s a concept model for now. The electric motors are pushing out 700 horsepower and with the instant torque of this car, the Camaro was able to finish a quarter-mile on only nine seconds. That means this amazing car is able to pass the test of being a fast car from the line and during a sprint, which will leave us with something to look forward to as this car makes its way to the track to show us the amazing power and speed that it has to display.

The Video Tells All

In the video that’s linked below, you can see the bright blue Camaro ready to rip off a fast time at the drag strip while making no noise at all. It almost feels like you’re watching the silent film version of a drag race. This car takes off on the track and when it does, the front end lifts up off the ground to give us the excitement of a great look that we’re certainly going to remember for a long time. Is this the first electric car that’s done a wheelie on the track? Probably not, but its fun to think it might be.

More to See from this eCOPO Chevrolet Camaro

The time quoted in the video is one of 10.142 seconds as the car crosses the finish line at the end of a quarter-mile run. While this isn’t quite a nine-second run, its pretty close and the video is likely a first run for the car. What we can look forward to is when the team is able to take the eCOPO Camaro out to the track to show us how fast it can be as it races around the track so that we can see what an electric Camaro can do.
