The Chevrolet Silverado EV Gets Even More Power

There’s a new all-electric Chevrolet Silverado coming, and it has even more power than Chevy originally advertised. The first-ever electric Silverado will arrive at your Chevy dealer in the fall of 2023 with a futuristic exterior design and lots of tech features and gadgets in the cabin.

The Electric Powertrain

Power for the initial Silverado EV will come from two electric motors, and Chevy will build it on the Ultium Platform. This modular battery platform is more flexible than other battery platforms because the battery cells can be arranged either horizontally or vertically, making it easier to integrate into any vehicle design.

The Ultium platform improves how much charge a vehicle can hold, which results in more range, and improved technology in the battery cells reduces charging times. The Chevrolet Silverado EV will offer up to 400 miles of range if you start with a full charge.

So, What Will the Silverado EV Produce for Horsepower?

When Chevrolet first started advertising the Silverado EV, they said it would arrive with at least 664 horsepower, but this recently changed with the reveal of the 2024 Sierra EV Denali pickup truck. When GM announced that the output for the Sierra would be 754 horsepower, Chevy also updated their horsepower estimates.

Although the two trucks visually look very different, they will have the same underpinnings, which means the same amount of horsepower. As Chevrolet gets ready to put the new Silverado into production, they now estimate that it will produce up to 754 horsepower and get up to 785 pound-feet of torque when the Wide Open Watts driving mode is used.

What Is Wide Open Watts?

So, what exactly does Chevy mean when they talk about Wide Open Watts? This refers to a driving mode that can extract peak power from the electric powertrain system. When engaged, this model will sustain the max power and acceleration numbers over long periods of time. You can find out more about WOW by visiting your local Chevy dealer.

How Does It Perform?

Chevy’s new E-4WD system will deliver almost instantaneous torque to all four wheels at the same time. The available four-wheel steering system gives the Silverado EV a smaller turning radius, and with a towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds, along with up to 14 camera views, towing will be easier and safer than ever.

What Are the Charging Options?

There’s no need to stop at a gas station when you get behind the wheel of the new Silverado EV. You can conveniently charge it at home with the available Level 2 charging. If you need to charge up when you are out on the road, there are over 43,000 public charging stations, so you can feel confident that there is always one nearby. The myChevrolet Mobile App with Energy Assist will help you find charging stations and even plan your route around where you can charge up along the way. If you need a quick charge, DC Public Charging can get you up to 100 miles of range in just ten minutes.

When Can You Get Your Hands on the New Chevy Silverado EV RST?

The first Silverado to arrive at your Chevy dealer will be the first edition RST, but you’ll have to wait until next year to reserve one.
