5 Cars We’re Bidding Farewell to in 2024

As 2023 winds down, the auto industry’s plans for 2024 are already in full swing. Many new models have already been rolled out, and announcements for the discontinuation of several models have also happened.

Quite a few models are getting the axe for next year, including loved names like the Kia Stinger, Chevy Bolt EV, Chrysler 300, the remaining Dodge muscle cars, and many others. Let’s take a look at five cars we’ll be seeing the last of by next year.

Ford Edge

Ford’s mid-size SUV isn’t expected to survive after this year as the automaker continues its transition to EVs. The Ford Edge will continue to live on in China where it’s morphed into a long-wheelbase hybrid crossover. The Lincoln Nautilaus is the Edge’s luxury twin and it recently saw a major makeover for the 2024 model year. Ford will also be letting the Fiesta go from its European lineup to be replaced with an EV Puma crossover model.

Mazda CX-9

Mazda is discontinuing the CX-9 and replacing it with the CX-90. The new model offers more space, a more energetic turbocharged inline-six engine, and a plug-in hybrid variant that has up to 26 miles of range. Unlike some of the other cars in this list, the Mazda CX-9 has definitely been replaced by a better model. Mazda is also saying goodbye to the compact MX-30 EV. Compared to the CX-9, the MX-30 didn’t do much well in its segment with only 100 miles of range and a starting price of $34,645.

Kia Stinger

The Kia Stinger has fielded discontinuation rumors for a few years, but this time it’s really going away when production ends in 2024. Kia concocted a nice sendoff for the Stinger by releasing a Tribute Edition model that features 19-inch wheels, Moonscape matte paint, and a total of only 1,000 units built worldwide. The Stinger was a fun car with a fun name and Kia doesn’t appear to have any strong replacements in the works, so this is one outgoing model that will definitely be missed.

Nissan Maxima

Nissan will also be cutting out its full-size Maxima sedan by the end of 2023. It was initially rumored that Nissan would work on a full-size EV model to replace the Maxima, but as 2023 winds down, there’s no EV sedan in the works for Nissan. It appears that the Maxima is simply going away quietly before the 2024 model year with no replacement in sight. There aren’t very many full-size sedans left on the market, so the death of the Maxima removes one more choice from buyers who want this type of vehicle.

Mercedes C-Class Cabriolet

Mercedes is cutting quite a few models from its lineup, and the sporty convertible Cabriolet is on the chopping block. The A-Class and CLS are also being removed. Reports suggest that the C-Class Cabriolet convertible roadster will leave the lineup sometime between now and 2024, which means it won’t make it through the 2024 model year. Mercedes is also removing the C-Class coupe, the E-Class coupe, and the E-Class Cabriolet.

There are several other models leaving the market by 2024, but the segment taking the worst hit is the car segment. The Kia Stinger and Nissan Maxima are just a few of the casualties.
