The Altima is one of the best-selling midsized sedans in history giving us a great product for our daily commute, weekend retreats or to handle the errands we have every day that must be completed.  For the upcoming model year the Altima has gained a major refresh in order to stay ahead of the competition from Honda, Volkswagen and Chevrolet including some new tech, changes in the powertrain and much more to ensure we will continue to feel this is a car that we want to buy.  Let’s take a look at a few things you should know about this new Altima; it just might be your new favorite vehicle.

The SR Model is Sportier

We think mostly of the midsized sedan as models that are bought for the purpose of commuting and errand running but automakers have seen an increase in the sales of sport versions of these models to the point of a major percent of midsized sedans have been purchased in the sportier model than ever before.  Because the Altima was not part of the sporty and performance realm before this new Altima offers a sport version in the SR to capture some of this market and give you a great new Altima to drive; who said driving an Altima couldn’t be fun?

You might not think aerodynamics when you think of the Altima, but it certainly has more than ever before.  This difference will add more mpg to the car on even the four-cylinder models that already had a great fuel mileage rating.  What is amazing is the fact that this sedan has the same drag coefficient as the Nissan GT-R and has active grill shutters to help balance out the air flow of the car, both are features you would not expect at the price you pay for an Altima.

A Quieter Cabin

Sitting inside the Altima while driving you will notice the quiet of the ride making it easy for you to listen to music and enjoy the sounds you want without the interruption of a variety of distracting noises.  You might even have to check the name plate because most cars that are this quiet are in the category of a luxury vehicle.  This better sound is the product of the acoustic windshield and more sound deadening materials which make for an area you can enjoy that doesn’t have to bring you the engine noise you don’t want.

Active Safety Technology

On previous models you could not enjoy the benefit of predictive forward collision warning, rear cross path detection or adaptive cruise control.  You can now.  With these active safety features aboard the Altima takes a huge step forward with technology to come more in line with the competition.  You also get the benefit if Siri integration for iPhones and a fantastic infotainment system that supports apps such as Pandora and others.  The new Altima is certainly heading in the right direction when it comes to technology.

Priced Close to the Same

With added aerodynamics, more safety technology, an SR model that is sporty and energetic and a cabin that is so quiet you would swear it’s a luxury vehicle you might think the Altima will be much more expensive than before but the base price only has increased $200 over the previous year.  This makes for an amazing car at a reasonable price for you to enjoy driving without the need to have payments that are ridiculously high.  The base price shows up at a very affordable $23,325 which goes up from there depending upon what you add to the car, but the Altima is certainly priced right for all it has to offer.
