There may actually be more than one reason the Jetta is the best-selling car in the Volkswagen lineup, some of which involves the fact that this car offers a wide range for this model along with offering a great deal of upscale interior features to make you comfortable during the ride.  the Jetta has been one of the favorites of the Volkswagen family for a while and gives us a midsize sedan that is fun to drive and can give you everything you want in a great sedan that was built for all your driving needs.

With Volkswagen you know you have models that offer a variety of powertrains in order to give you the car you want to drive.  Currently for the Jetta you have four to choose from.  The base powertrain is a 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that is placed in the S and SE trims which offers 150 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque.  This engine is mated to a five speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission to give you a fuel mileage of 28 city/40 hwy mpg for the manual and 28 city/39 hwy mpg on the automatic.

Next up is the 1.8-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque making its home in the SEL and Sport models.  Using the same transmissions this engine will give you 25 city/37 hwy mpg for the manual and 25 city/36 hwy mpg for the automatic.  the GLI is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that brings you 210 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft. of torque.  This engine uses either a six-speed manual or automatic to bring you fuel numbers of 23 city/33 hwy mpg for the manual and 24 city/33 hwy mpg for the automatic.  Of the engines in the lineup, the GLI offers the most power for the Jetta.

There is a hybrid variant for the Jetta and it comes with a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine plus and electric motor.  This pair offers 170 combined horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque combined together.  Attached to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission this becomes the most efficient powertrain in the lineup at 42 city/48 hwy mpg.

What many people love about their Jetta is the fact that this car is one that is dependable and a great drive.  Even though the power numbers seem low this is a car that you can have a lot of fun driving with a dynamic suspension and stiff chassis to allow it to whip around corners and take turns with confidence and ease.  Most often heard is the fact that the Jetta drives like a higher model car than it is in order to be able to be a more dynamic drive.  With this car you won’t just commute to and from work each day, you can make it an experience of fun, excitement and learning new roads to and from your home; giving you more excitement on the road than ever.

When you think affordable you don’t necessarily think fun to drive, but the Jetta is both.  For 2016 this car brings in a new turbocharged engine for the S and SE trims and the GLI is the recipient of a major exterior upgrade.  The infotainment system updates add the VW Car Net which works well with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink.  The SE trim also adds a new rearview camera to make this car a complete package that you can easily enjoy from every position.  Since we are looking at what’s new on the car, let’s look at the features overall.

The standard offerings for the Jetta include air conditioning, power windows, doors and mirror, keyless entry, fifteen inch steel wheels, Bluetooth connectivity and an audio system with a five-inch color touch screen.  Move up to the Se and you will add the next level engine, cruise control, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, push button starting, a heated washer nozzle, six-speaker surround sound and an iPod adapter.  The SEL trim adds a navigation system, a power driver’s seat, a Fender premium audio system, automatic climate controls, keyless access and push button starting.  All models enjoy two years or 24,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance to sweeten the deal.

Most of the options you can add to this car are received as you move up the different trim levels.  Some of the additions include the sunroof, a navigation system, the VW Car Net connectivity service, push button starting, a touch screen radio, a power driver’s seat and a rearview camera.  With the top line models, the GLI and GLI Hybrid you add in the bi-xenon headlights, automatic climate control, a Fender premium audio system, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, par distance control, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

One of the best features of the Jetta is the fact that it’s a great car from any price and that price can start under $20,000 for the base model and move up over the $32,000 mark for the GLI that is fully loaded.  this makes for a car that starts out as a feature packed entry level car and ends giving some luxury players a run for their money with the awesome Volkswagen equipment that is found in this great car.  Certainly this isn’t the lowest priced car on the market, but it’s also not the most expensive, giving you a great value for the price.

As a compact car the Jetta does offer some great interior space up front and a reasonable amount in the back seat.  There is no wasted effort in this car as you can understand and enjoy the feeling of a great car as soon as you step inside and take it for a ride.  From the outside the Jetta is stylish but conservative which is great for those looking for a car that doesn’t have to shout “look at me” to know it’s a great vehicle to drive.  Overall the Jetta continues to be a fantastic car for driving whether it’s a daily commuter or for the purpose of cruising on the weekends, this can be the right car for you.
