When you look at the CT6 you would expect this to be the flagship sedan that Cadillac has wanted to put to the market for years, but you would be wrong. Cadillac has stated for several months now that the CT6 will not be the flagship model of the future, only of the present and near future. Looking out four to five years Cadillac intends to produce at least one model that will sit above the CT6 in the market, made to demand a much higher price, but built on the same principles as the CT6.
As if that isn’t confusing enough, there hasn’t been a concept car that Cadillac has offered us over the last fifteen years that even looks like it could be the flagship model that would “move the needle” as Cadillac so desires. Instead of clarity we have been given confusion as we have been blessed with the Imaj crossover SUV, the Cien mid-engine supercar, the Sixteen super luxury sedan, the Ciel four-door convertible and the Elmiraj luxury coupe. Of all these the Sixteen could be the one that would be used, but that concept was presented in 2003 which means a vast majority of it is now outdated.
Whatever the flagship car from Cadillac becomes it’s expected to be built on GM’s Omega rear and all-wheel drive architecture that has been launched on the CT6. The desire from Cadillac is that the flagship model be one that is so super luxury that they can ask for a price in the six digit range and have customers gladly handing over the money because they know they have something special. This is the feeling that many get when they buy the Cadillac Escalade, but so far the sedans offered have not given the same feeling to buyers.
Certainly Cadillac has made strides to be a sporty brand with the addition of the ATS-V and CTS-V to the lineup. These two “nasty” luxury beauties have been seen destroying sports cars at the track, showing off the Cadillac suspension and control systems while being powered by the Chevrolet sports car engines that come out of the Corvette and Camaro. This has developed into a great partnership for Cadillac, but still leaves them without a true flagship sedan to offer, especially since that have continued to refuse to put that title onto the CT6.
Although Cadillac continues to try and leave us in suspense and seems unsatisfied with the CT6 as the flagship model they have hinted at possibly having two vehicles above the CT6. They could of course make the CT8 to take on the other top players in the luxury line and with the Cadillac name on this car the CT8 could be the true flagship model, but don’t be surprised if this never takes place or we see two models that take the Cadillac name to new luxury model heights.
