Impressive Upgrades for the Four Door Porsche

When it comes to sports cars, Porsche is at the top of the list as a brand that most of us truly admire. The only problem for many years was the fact that the sports cars from Porsche offered only two seats inside them. This is only a problem for those that view it as such, but a Porsche with four doors and room to carry two more passengers would certainly garner a larger market of sales for Porsche and thus the Panamera was born to be the four door sports sedan from this lauded name.

Now that the Panamera has been on the market for some time and has taken on many of the same trim levels as the 911 we have witnessed the Turbo version of the Panamera completing the lap at Nurburgring in only 7:38. This time is exceptionally fast, but doesn’t seem to be anywhere near where Porsche wants to end with the Panamera. In fact, it appears this time was just a beginning for the German brand to move up and take on the challenge of creating cars that would best this time and provide us with and even faster track time.

We have already been given confirmation from Porsche that they are working on adding two hybrid models of the Panamera to the lineup in 2017 to borrow some of the technology from the 918 Spyder. These two models will certainly pack a punch and at least one of them is expected to offer as much as 700 horsepower for us to enjoy. Imagine driving three of your friends around in a car that can push out 700 horses; they just might need you to pull over so they can have a bit of private time while the last meal they devoured makes another appearance.

Even though this is the expectation and goal of Porsche, we might be getting a bit ahead of ourselves. A more powerful Panamera will make an appearance first as the Turbo S model which will bring in nearly 580 horsepower which is thirty more than the standard Turbo model. This means we may see a faster Nurburgring time from the Panamera before we even get to the 700 horsepower version that will eventually make its way to the market.

Once the range topping model does come to be we will see a car that is similar to the 918 Spyder but with a back seat. The expected powertrain is a 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine that also enjoys the addition of the 918 hybrid performance system to offers as much as 800 lb.-ft. of torque to go with the 700 horses galloping in the engine bay.

I said there would be two new Panamera models and the Turbo S wasn’t one of them. While only a few will enjoy the massive power of the 918 inspired model, the other one will be a car that is still a lot of fun to drive with a standard supercharged V6 engine and an electric motor to offer more fuel mileage rather than increase the performance of the car. With this car added to the lineup we will have a Panamera to tear up the track and one to give us a longer ride on the road trips across whatever country we happen to drive our Porsche Panamera in.
