As much as FCA has put money and effort into their SUV modes, they have gone away from the sedans and cars in their group as well. We already know that the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 will be gone at the end of this year, but it seems like FCA is ready to change their lineup even more to give us a change in models that will move to new platforms in the next few years. In an effort to go away from the heavy cars of the FCA sedan lineup we will see the following changes.
The new Giulia uses the Giorgio platform and it has to be made to accept what’s coming. The Giulia is a small sedan that’s part of the Alfa Romeo line, giving us a car that will be the best drive we have on the market from this brand. No long will we only have the 4C in the US, the Giulia makes a difference in the drive and will be the basis of models that we’re even more familiar with, giving us some amazing new cars to love and drive but making it so we lose at least one we’ve enjoyed.
The Charger and Challenger from Dodge will now be put on this platform to make them lighter and built a lot more like the models we want to enjoy on the road. As other brands have moved to lighter models over the years, FCA had a hard time doing this. With this new platform, that challenge is over and they can now move forward. This change is expected to be part of the 2021 model year which will also be the year we see one of our favorite vehicles on the road deleted from the market altogether.
This model that will be gone is the Chrysler 300. This has been one of the premium cars that have been loved by many who want to enjoy the drive for so many years, but after 2020 this car will be gone. Because the platform that all three, the 300, the Charger and the Challenger, ride on is dated it will be deleted, which is good for FCA as they work to move forward. Possibly, once they perfect this platform to where it is right for the Charger and Challenger, we might see smaller cars make it back on the market from FCA.
Another positive that will come out of this change, other than these heavy muscle cars finally becoming lighter and more agile, is the fact that there may be a variant to the Charger and Challenger called the Barracuda. If this car makes it to production there will be even more choices that can be made for thee two model, which already have several choices for you to select from. If you’ve had your eye on a Chrysler 300 for a while, now are the time to buy before it’s gone, but if you want to wait for this new platform and the models that show up, keep saving, these lighter performance models will be amazing.
