Sharing cars by way of having a fleet of the available for use at any time has become a more convenient way to have a vehicle ready for you to drive without all the hassle of a rental car counter. In effect that is what you’re doing when you sign up for and use a vehicle sharing service, right? You download the app to your smartphone or computer and when you need a vehicle you register for the one that is positioned closest to you. Once you’re done you return it to a designated parking area for the next person to use.
The idea behind ride sharing is genius and it makes things much easier than hiring an Uber, especially if you need to be able to drive the vehicle yourself. BMW is launching a new car sharing service which is called ReachNow and is to be offered in Seattle at first, but will expand to ten cities across North America in the near future. This will give members a program that offers premium cars for them to drive that is as convenient as owning a car without having to actually own a car.
The app is set up to offer a fast registration process and instant approval which takes less than two minutes to complete. The fleet offered by ReachNow will feature 370 vehicles in Seattle which include the BMW i3, 3 Series and MINI Cooper. These cars will be located around the city and be offered for immediate use. By the second quarter ReachNow expects to expand to include Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which will help to improve their process and be an available service for those travelling to the city for use during their stay in Seattle.
Anyone can try this service by downloading the app which is located at the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Once a member you can locate and book the car that is closest to you and return the car to any legal parking space on the street when done. This actually includes metered spaces which can be used for free when using this car share service. This does offer a level of convenience for you when you want to make use of this service, but until the airport is included in this program there is an added feature to ReachNow that many members might want to make use of.
This added feature is a delivery service which brings the vehicle to a desired location at a specific time. This certainly improves the overall convenience of the program and makes it much easier to have a seamless transition from the airplane to the car and back to the airplane once again. This year we expect to see ReachNow expand to three additional cities with seven more slated for the following year to bring the total up to eleven by the end of 2017. This is a way to give Seattle residents what they want, which is more options when it comes to transportation without owning cars and as one of the most progressive cities in the country, Seattle is a great place to begin.
