What would you do with nearly $1 billion in investment money? If you are the Aston Martin brand you expand your lineup and get ready to become more of a volume player in the automotive market than ever before. Recently this amount funded for the company to give them a brand new goal of several new models over the next few years. Aston Martin has announced plans to offer as many as ten new models by the years 2021 which will fill out the lineup and give those who can shop in the this stratosphere of the vehicle market some great choices.
All the models will use the new aluminum components except for the new hypercar. This new set of aluminum pieces replaces the VH architecture which was in place under the Ford ownership of the brand. With the DB11 recently revealed, the new lineup is a complete ten and will feature the following:
- 2017 – DB11 Volante, new V8 Vantage
- 2018 – V8 Vantage Roadster, new DBS, Rapide E, 1000 horsepower hypercar which is sponsored by Red Bull
- 2019 – DBX Crossover SUV
- 2020 – DBS Volante, Rapide replacement
Let’s take a look as some of the upcoming models and get excited about what Aston Martin has to offer us.
Vantage – This new version of the Vantage which will be offered for the 2017 model year will be lighter, sportier and offer overall better handling than the one we have on the market today. This new car will sport the new 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 which will replaced the naturally aspirated one. This new V8 engine will come from Mercedes who has agreed to be a technology partner with Aston Martin to offer the right power plant for a new sports car. this new version of the Vantage will continue to have a manual six-speed transmission and the roadster will be available in 2018 with a soft top to follow what Aston Martin normally does for car reveals.
DBS – The new DB11 is a blend of the DB9 and Vanquish which means there is now room for the DBS to be the successor to the Vanquish. This will be a hardcore sports car that will offer 700 horsepower and 627 lb.-ft. of torque with the performance you would love to enjoy. The only item left off the menu for this car is AWD, which may eventually make its way in.
Red Bull Hypercar – We don’t know a great deal about the shape and feel of this car just yet except to say it will be a car that will offer a mid-mounted engine and high performance. The expected result is a car that will reach over 1000 horsepower from the turbocharged V12 engine. Once we know more and see what this car will be in a format that makes more sense to us we can begin to dissect what Aston Martin plans to offer and how they will execute their new car model.
DBX – This will be the first entry as an SUV for Aston Martin and it’s expected to use some form of the electrical assistance/hybrid power. As an Aston Martin you can expect to see a low slung but high riding vehicle that offers four doors and looks like an SUV but in reality this is a massive performance monster. Using the flexible V8 engine or an optional V12 for more power the DBX could be the crossover to stand above the rest. There is expected to be four electric motors used to offer more power and performance and give us an AWD zero-emissions vehicle that we can enjoy.
Rapide/Lagonda Taraf – The next large four door cruising sedan from Aston Martin will be sold under one of these names, but which one has yet to be determined. What we do know is there will be a hybrid application to the AMG sourced powertrain to give us a powerful ride that will be more than perfectly comfortable for four adults to enjoy the ride around town. More information will be available in the near future, but this is still nearly four years away and could change a bit before that time.
