While Europe is filled with the odd looking five door or three door cars that are called hatchbacks, they haven’t caught on as much in the US. For that reason most of the brands that sell hatchbacks here do so with at least a sedan variation of the vehicle so that we can have something we’re more accustomed to. That trend has started to fade as hatchbacks have gotten better and there’s been huge excitement around hot hatches on the market. With that in mind Chevrolet has introduced their third hatchback in their lineup, the Cruze Hatchback.

This little car is going to be the largest of the three with the Sonic in the middle and the Spark as the smallest. This car will be powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and bring in 153 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque. The transmissions used are both six-speed and you can choose either a manual or an automatic. The fuel mileage expected is 28 city/37 hwy mpg, giving you a great little car that’s easy on the gas.

This little five door vehicle will be the perfect addition to the lineup in a market that attempts to stay away from hatchbacks because they tend to be small in size. With the size of the new Cruze and the fuel efficiency offered, this could be the perfect blend to attract a brand new audience to the market. This car will even attempt to win over some of those who have been dissuaded by the diesel failures of Volkswagen. It will do this by offering a model near the end of next year that will use a 1.6-liter diesel engine to give the small size and admirable power that we love.

This hatchback will start at the middle level for the Cruze, the LT trim. At this trim you will enjoy the benefit of ten airbags, a seven-inch MyLink infotainment screen, 16-inch aluminum wheels, steering wheel audio and phone controls, XM Radio, LED daytime running lights, OnStar with the 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, remote keyless entry, a rearview camera and heated cloth seats. This is a car that offers you the benefits that you don’t often find on a small car that comes at such a reasonable price.

The Premier model replaces the old LTZ trim and adds a few extras for you to enjoy. This model brings in an upgraded Z-Link rear suspension, heated leather seats and steering wheel, 17-inch wheels, an eight-inch touchscreen and push button starting. You can also add on an RS appearance package to either of these two trims to give you the look and feel that you want to enjoy.

Other cool items that can be added are included in the Driver Confidence package which can be had on both trims which includes rear parking assistance, blind spot monitoring, lane changing alerts and rear cross traffic alerts. The Premier trim offers you the option of the Driver Confidence II package that brings in even more technology with the IntelliBeam automatic high beam controls, forward collision alerts, follow distance indicator, lane departure warnings and lane keep assistance.

You will be able to enjoy this car for under $30,000 even if you choose every option at the highest trim level.
