If you need more proof that buyers want affordable performance sedans, the Hyundai Elantra N delivers it with record sales in May. The sedan’s sales jumped up 141%, at the same time the Hyundai brand as a whole went up 8%. The Elantra has climbed steadily by 18% for the month, year over year.
Why the Elantra N is a Solid Value
The good news is that the new Hyundai Elantra N is a solid value right off the lot, but you can save even more with a used Hyundai. According to Hyundai, six nameplates have now topped one million sales. Those include the Sonata, Tucson, Santa Fe, Accent, and Excel. The Elantra is now the second top seller behind the Tucson in recent years. However, it remains the best-selling vehicle in the US company’s history.
Total sales of the Elantra were up 18% and hit 15,741 last month. The Elantra N delivers 276 horsepower and nimble performance at an ideal price. Starting at $34,350, the Hyundai sedan is a performance bargain and one of the cheapest in the segment.
For the price, you get an electronic suspension, variable valve exhaust system, a special N Grin drive mode selector, and summer performance tires, among many other features. Inside, it comes with heated seats, and you can opt for a dual-clutch transmission for an extra $1,500.
Comparing Rival Cars
To compare, the base Subaru WRX offers less power than the Elantra N and starts at a higher price of $37,750. The Honda Civic Si starts at a lower price of $30,250, but it has 76 fewer horsepower than the Elantra N as well. Volkswagen wants $32,715 for the Jetta GLI, but it also delivers 50 fewer horsepower than the Elantra N. With these options, it’s difficult to pass up the obvious value of the Elantra N.
In other words, you can pay more for less power with the Subaru, or save money with the VW and Honda options, but get a lot less horsepower for your dollar. The Hyundai Elantra N is also packed with niceties and standard features. It’s easy to see why this is one of the best values for a performance sedan on the market.
Other Hot Sales Numbers For Hyundai
Hyundai is looking at some other hot sellers in its model lineup at the same time. The Tucson is a consistent top seller with a boost of 15% year over year to 19,905. Sales for the Tucson are up 23% on the year. The Hyundai Venue is the brand’s smallest model, and it also saw big sales gains to the tune of 74% in May year over year.
On the electric side of things, Hyundai’s first three-row crossover EV, the Ioniq 9, grabbed 302 sales for its first month on the market. The EV crossover is built in Georgia and is slowly starting to arrive at dealers nationwide. These sales are down from its sibling, the Kia EV9, but that model has been on the market for quite a bit longer.
Hyundai says that retail sales held steady, showing the strength and consistency of the brand’s lineup. The Ioniq 9 delivery is a big deal for the brand, marking a step forward in its EV journey.
